In 1824 850 women and children sought refuge in the islet from the fury of the Turks. However the Turks managed to discover the passage from the mainland to the islet, walked over and slaughtered them all. According to the legend the sand on the beach took its red color from the blood of all the victims. A memorial to this historical event stands at the parking area opposite to the islet. Elafonisi beach has been voted several times as one of the most majestic beaches not only in Europe but also in the world. The area features exotic beauty: dunes, cedar trees, white lilies, black rocks, rare species of animals and birds that live there, blue waters and bright white sand.

Our tour to the beautiful island of Elafonissi starts a little bit after noon with a direct drive through the mountains. Approximate time of arrival at the beach 15:15 p.m . We will be staying in Elafonissi until 19:00.( In September-October times will change as sunset is earlier). After that we will go for dinner in the village of Amygdalokefali in a restaurant which has one of the best sunsets in the area as it is at the edge of the cliff overwatching the sea.Time there about 1 hour and then we will return to Chania( approximately 22:00).
